Martin graduated from the University of Dundee in Scotland in 1985 and has over 30 years experience in community service and private practice in Scotland and New Zealand. Martin spent many years in the Scottish Community Dental Service (CDS), treating children and special needs patients.
Martin, wife Wendy and their children, moved to New Zealand in 2003. Martin is an active member of the Hawke's Bay Dental Association, the New Zealand Dental Association and the New Zealand Institute of Minimal Intervention Dentistry. In his spare time, Martin is a sea-scout leader and also enjoys orienteering, skiing and tramping.
Lauren graduated from Otago University in 2009 with a degree in Dental Surgery before settling in Hawke's Bay several years ago. She has a special interest in Maori oral health and special needs patients, and previously worked at Hawke's Bay Hospital for two years.
These days, Lauren splits her working time between public health and private practice. Lauren has also worked in the Chatham Islands and loved her time spent there as much as she enjoys the lifestyle of Hawke's Bay. Lauren also has a beautiful daughter who was born in December 2015.
Kate graduated from Otago University in 2011 with a degree in Oral Health, which means she is dual qualified as a dental therapist and a dental hygienist. Kate worked for just over a year in Wellington, four days with the school dental service seeing children from 2–12 years, and one day in private practice working as a dental hygienist.
These days, Kate works four days a week with us. She works as a dental therapist on Mondays with teenagers and on Thursday and Friday as a hygienist. On Wednesdays she assists Martin in our regular clinic. Outside work, Kate is interested in painting, reading, playing the saxophone, Pilates, spending time with her family and looking after several pets. Kate was married in a beautiful ceremony at The Mission in 2015.

Locally born, Marion originally trained as an enrolled nurse at Hastings Hospital where she worked for 16 years. She has worked in the dental industry for the last 20 years and has been with the Smile Centre for five years working as a senior dental assistant. Graduating from the University of Dundee in 1986 with a degree in Law and post-grad diploma in Legal Practice, Wendy worked as a lawyer in private practice and local government until she and Martin started a family. With three boys in tow, she decided to take time off to study for a degree in Social Science. Wendy went back into private practice law in the Scottish Borders until she had a fourth child, this time a girl!
Wendy has been the Smile Centre's manager since taking over the centre in 2006. She enjoys cycling the local cycle paths, staying in shape at the gym and singing. Wendy is a member of the Napier Civic Choir and competed in her first body building competition in 2015 with 1 to 1 Gym.
